Each morning most of us start out our day the same way we started our day yesterday. We get that first morning cup of coffee. Or, we immediately brush our teeth to get morning breath washed away only to sour it again with a fresh cup of coffee. Oh we like the taste of coffee but others don't like to inhale our coffee breath. But I digress. This is how we form habits. Some are good but others rob us of time, growth, and greater success. We settle for what our habits bring us because they make things more predictable, comfortable, and we can rest in the fact that we are doing okay for ourselves. But, we find a level of dissatisfaction in our lives. We found out in yesterday's blog that only 14% of people in the United States are very happy with their lives. Patterns, habits, and traditions can give us a sense of comfort and pleasure but they can also be the very reason why we are dissatisfied and not very happy. Or we decide, I am as successful and as happy as I can be. This is a rational lie.
Think about your workplaces. What percentage of your workforce is VERY HAPPY in their work? Perhaps there are patterns, habits, and traditions that seem good but produce an unhappiness for the workforce? What are you going to do, disrupt your life and the life of all those around you? In fact, change is disruption. If I am not perfect then our habits are not perfect. Something has to give. Disruption has to happen. But what? First, you have to decide to give some of yourself away. Second, allow others to become "Loving Critics" in your life. Yes we all need these kind of critics in our life. Third, you must decide to begin caring about all of your workforce. It doesn't matter if they care first. You must be the first change they see. They have to know you truly do care. If they aren't convinced then all the critiquing in the world won't bring about the behavior changes you desire and need in your workforce.
You cannot reduce and grow your workforce with Loving Criticism without real Caring for your People. It is also true you cannot have a growing workforce if you Care but are not a Loving Critic. People who choose to be loving critics do so to Protect and Provide for their people.
